Commercial Manager

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Commercial Manager to join Babcock’s team at the Devonport Naval Base in New Zealand. In this high‑impact position you will provide commercial and bid support for marine operations, working closely with senior leaders and the wider commercial function to ensure our defence programmes are commercially robust.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver commercial and bid support across marine projects, shaping outcomes and safeguarding contractual obligations.
• Manage commercial risk in complex defence and marine environments.
• Lead contract development, negotiation and governance activities.
• Support major tenders and guide stakeholders through commercial processes.
• Embed best‑practice commercial frameworks and contribute to decision‑making.

Required profile

• Legal right to work in New Zealand and ability to obtain an NZDF security clearance.
• Degree in Business, Commerce, Law or equivalent experience.
• Extensive knowledge of commercial contracts, sub‑contracts, procurement and supply‑chain management.
• Experience engaging with national and international customers and suppliers.
• Background in commercial, civil, defence or government sectors.
