General Manager – Hospital & Community Health

About the role

We are seeking a dynamic General Manager to lead Southern Charity Hospital, a community‑driven, not‑for‑profit healthcare provider serving Southland and Otago. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, you will provide strategic direction, oversee volunteers and staff, and champion our mission of free, high‑quality cancer care.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a robust strategic plan aligned with the hospital’s mission.
• Lead grant applications, explore new funding streams and manage operating budgets.
• Maintain relationships with stakeholders, partners and the community, enhancing the hospital’s public profile.
• Ensure compliance with legislative requirements and uphold high standards of patient care.
• Identify and launch initiatives that improve health outcomes for the Southern community.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership or management experience, preferably with volunteer teams.
• Extensive experience in financial management and budgeting, ideally in the not‑for‑profit sector.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic plans.
• Excellent planning, organisation, communication and presentation skills.
• Track record of building strong relationships with key stakeholders.
