Emergency Medicine Registrar (non‑training)

About the role

Timaru Hospital is looking for two Emergency Medicine Registrars (non‑training) to join its busy Emergency Department in South Canterbury. The role provides extensive clinical responsibility, direct mentorship from senior consultants, and a supportive provincial hospital environment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality emergency care to undifferentiated patients, trauma cases and acute medical presentations.
• Collaborate with consultants, RMOs, nursing staff and multidisciplinary teams.
• Progressively assume greater clinical responsibility in line with experience.
• Participate in weekly teaching sessions, case discussions and service‑improvement meetings.
• Contribute to a positive, patient‑focused team culture.

Required profile

• Strong, broad‑based clinical skills and sound clinical judgement.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Enthusiasm, adaptability and willingness to take on responsibility.
• Genuine interest in continuous learning and professional development.

Required skills
