About the role
The Central City Hub of Auckland Central City Library is seeking a Community Engagement Librarian to build strong connections with diverse communities across central Auckland and the Waitemata local board.
Key responsibilities
- Engage with vulnerable and broader community groups to identify service gaps and co‑design programmes that address wellbeing, loneliness, homelessness and youth homelessness.
- Develop and maintain relationships with local organisations, fostering inclusive partnerships that reflect the needs of Māori and other communities.
- Design and deliver people‑focused events, activities and programmes that promote library collections and digital resources.
- Provide senior frontline library support, assisting staff with customer enquiries, promoting collections, and handling challenging situations including security processes.
- Lead and mentor staff when required, ensuring a high‑quality, community‑focused service at the library front desk.
- Collaborate with other Central City Hub teams to innovate and connect services across the library network.
Required profile
- Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to take on supervisory responsibilities.
- Resilient problem‑solver who adopts a people‑first approach in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong relationship‑building skills with diverse local communities in central Auckland.
- Creative and enthusiastic, capable of designing and delivering engaging programmes and events.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders.
- Awareness of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and confidence to lead services that meet Māori needs.
Required skills
What we offer
- Full‑time permanent position (40 hours per week) with flexible scheduling, including weekends.
- Roster includes one late night and one weekend day per week (Tuesday‑Saturday, Friday late shift).
- Previous library experience helpful but not essential.
