Trade Commissioner – Guangzhou & Hong Kong

About the role

NZTE is seeking a commercially savvy senior leader to head its trade activities in Guangzhou and Hong Kong. Based in Guangzhou, you will shape export opportunities for New Zealand across the Greater Bay Area, Mainland China and Hong Kong, driving a clear value proposition and sustained market momentum.

Key responsibilities

• Set and deliver market strategies in partnership with the Greater China regional team.
• Lead a customer‑focused operating rhythm that generates tangible outcomes for New Zealand exporters.
• Build strong partnerships across NZ Inc, the Consulate‑General network and local stakeholders to reinforce New Zealand’s trade presence.
• Cultivate purposeful networks that connect businesses, people and opportunities.
• Communicate market impact back to New Zealand, translating complex dynamics into actionable insights.
• Foster a high‑performing, cohesive team across both offices, sharing momentum and success.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership capability with the ability to influence and align teams both in‑person and remotely.
• Strong commercial acumen to quickly identify customer needs and drive export growth.
• Confidence operating autonomously, exercising sound judgement across two distinct markets.
• Strategic alignment with NZTE priorities and clear, consistent communication.
• Exceptional networking and community‑building skills to create a connected ecosystem of partners.
• Highly collaborative approach, breaking down silos across Trade, Operations, Marketing and Communications.
