Software Engineer (C++ / Angular) - Earthworks

About the role

Caterpillar Trimble Control Technologies (CTCT), a joint venture between Trimble and Caterpillar, develops positioning and control products for earthmoving and paving machines in construction and mining. As Software Engineer (C++/Angular) in Christchurch, you will help develop and evolve the Earthworks system, connecting embedded C++ control systems with cloud connectivity and modern web applications. The role sits in a collaborative global engineering framework.

Key responsibilities

• Develop dynamic, cross-platform system features so customers can commission and operate heavy machinery productively with a wide range of sensing devices.
• Write robust embedded Linux software in C++ and build modern web applications with Angular, TypeScript, HTML and CSS.
• Contribute to distributed system architecture by identifying subdomains and establishing bounded contexts.
• Work with domain experts and software engineers across international sites to deliver customer value.
• Apply fundamental engineering practices to ensure predictability, high quality and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Mechatronics or equivalent practical experience.
• Solid professional experience developing embedded software in C++.
• Demonstrated full-lifecycle software engineering experience, including specification, automated testing, CI/CD and technical documentation.
• Only applicants legally entitled to work permanently in New Zealand will be considered; no travel required.

Required skills

• Embedded Linux software development in C++.
• Web application development with TypeScript and Angular (or other modern JavaScript frameworks).
• Bonus points for experience with embedded devices in industrial or IoT settings.
