General Engineering Apprentice (Waiuku)

About the role

ATNZ is recruiting a General Engineering Apprentice for a host company in Waiuku, Auckland. The host company is a leading steel manufacturer with a fully integrated steel mill about 60 km south of Auckland, producing around 670,000 tonnes of steel annually. Successful candidates are employed by ATNZ and placed with the host company, receiving on-the-job training while studying to become a fully qualified engineer.

Key responsibilities

• Fitting and assembly
• Work in the machine shop
• Service and repair
• Manufacturing
• General fabrication of machines and equipment, including hydraulics and pneumatics

Required profile

• Commitment to 3-4 years of full-time study and work; the apprenticeship may be shorter if a Level 3 pre-trade qualification has been completed
• Interest in mechanical engineering
• Restricted or full driver's licence
• Completed a pre-trade course or experience in the trades or mechanical engineering industry
• No qualifications required; a good attitude and work ethic are valued

The apprenticeship lasts 3-4 years. Pre-employment testing, including medical and drug testing, is part of the eligibility process. No fees are charged to apprentices.
