Financial Accountant – 12‑Month Fixed‑Term (Parental Leave Cover)

About the role
This 12‑month fixed‑term position covers parental leave within a high‑performing finance team in Wellington CBD. You will own key balance‑sheet portfolios, support group consolidation and NZ IFRS reporting, and gain exposure to audit processes.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare accurate month‑end journals and complete balance‑sheet reconciliations, resolving reconciling items promptly.
- Apply NZ IFRS and group accounting policies consistently across all transactions.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements for the group and its subsidiaries.
- Support half‑year and year‑end audit activities.
- Collaborate with finance stakeholders to ensure data quality and consistent accounting treatment.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and strengthen internal controls.
Required profile
- Qualified accountant with 3‑4 years of experience in a large corporate environment or reputable CA firm.
- Strong understanding of NZ IFRS, generally accepted accounting practice, and experience preparing compliant financial statements.
- Solid balance‑sheet experience, including reconciliations and variance resolution.
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills with a proactive ownership mindset.
- Clear communication skills and ability to work across systems and stakeholders.
