Deputy Principal – Māori Curriculum School

About the role

Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei is looking for a Deputy Principal to lead Te Kura o Ngāti Whātua ki Tāmaki, a new Māori curriculum school in central Auckland. You will work closely with the Principal on the implementation of the New Zealand Curriculum and the school's learning programmes for Years 9 to 13, while also acting as a teacher and mentor to staff.

Key responsibilities

• Work with the Principal to implement the New Zealand Curriculum, school-wide learning areas and teaching practices for Years 9 to 13
• Support and strengthen teachers so that students achieve well
• Lead the overall direction of the school, including its success, equity and engagement
• Help build and run the school's assessment framework
• Set up and oversee NCEA, standardisation processes and NZQA requirements, including a Consent to Assess plan
• Develop high-quality teaching resources aligned with the school's values
• Stay in the classroom as a teacher and role model
• Build strong relationships with students, families and the community

Required profile

• Registered teacher with a teaching qualification and experience leading Māori language or Māori curriculum contexts
• Strong Māori language ability and deep understanding of Te Marautanga o Aotearoa
• Experience developing curriculum, assessment and quality improvement
• Knowledge of NCEA and NZQA standards
• Leadership, cultural knowledge of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei and passion for building a Māori school

Required skills

• Teaching certificate (Level 2) and right to teach in New Zealand
• Teaching qualification
