Secondary English Teacher

About the role

ACG Strathallan College, a South Auckland independent school offering Cambridge International from Preschool to Year 13, is hiring an experienced Secondary English Teacher. The position is permanent and full-time, starting in Term 1 2027, and involves delivering motivational and differentiated lessons within a supportive team.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, challenging lessons aligned with the school's curriculum, policies and external assessment requirements, differentiating learning for each student.
• Assess students' in-class and at-home learning regularly and give targeted feedback to drive progress.
• Create a classroom and school environment where students feel valued, supported and ready to take risks in their learning.
• Work with colleagues to share best practice and pursue your own professional development.
• Contribute to the co-curricular programme, from leading clubs to whole-school initiatives.
• Maintain open, constructive communication with parents to build strong partnerships.

Required profile

• Genuine passion for education and the ability to engage and motivate young people.
• Proven track record of excellence in personal, academic and professional areas.
• In-depth knowledge of English and the ability to inspire students and support their progress.
• Experience of pastoral care and promoting student wellbeing.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with families.
• Commitment to continuous professional development.
• Strong organisational and administrative skills, able to plan, prioritise and work under pressure.

Required skills

• Expertise in assessing student progress and giving targeted feedback, including in external assessments.
• PGCE, QTS or equivalent, with excellent academic credentials and, ideally, evidence of post-graduate study.
