Band 5 Mental Health Nurse – Prison Healthcare

About the role

We are seeking a Band 5 Mental Health Nurse to join the Forth Valley Prison Healthcare team. Based initially at HMP Stirling, the role involves providing trauma‑informed, person‑centred care to a vulnerable prison population across three sites.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality mental health assessment, treatment and support within a secure prison environment.
• Collaborate with prison staff, the Scottish Prison Service and external agencies to ensure coordinated care.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to care planning.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and adhere to NHS policies and safeguarding procedures.
• Support the development and delivery of innovative mental health initiatives and service improvements.

Required profile

• Registered mental health nurse (Band 5) with a current NHS registration.
• Ability to work autonomously and make sound clinical decisions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with patients, staff and external partners.
• Willingness to rotate between prison sites and travel as required.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development.
