Traffic Operations Supervisor (Southland State Highway)

About the role

The Traffic Operations Supervisor coordinates and oversees all traffic management activities for the Southland Integrated Delivery Contract, ensuring safe and efficient maintenance, renewals, and incident response across the state highway network.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate traffic management for planned works, reactive maintenance, and incident response.
• Manage time and space bookings, early access requests, deployment notifications, and corridor access requirements.
• Liaise with internal teams, subcontractors, utilities, councils, and NZTA to align traffic management planning and delivery.
• Resolve clashes and optimise corridor activities to minimise disruption to road users.
• Support operational teams by ensuring appropriate traffic management measures are in place.

Required profile

• Proactive, organised and safety‑focused individual who works well in a team.
• Experience in traffic management coordination, roading or civil maintenance environments.
• Knowledge of Traffic Management Plan (TMP) processes, corridor access and network operations.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Ability to collaborate across operational, planning and field teams.
• Proactive problem‑solving mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.
