People and Performance Business Partner

About the role

Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, a hapū of Ngāti Whātua with more than 8,000 registered members, is strengthening its internal capability through its Toi Tangata People & Performance team. This role suits a grounded, ER-capable, values-driven HR practitioner who wants to move away from a purely corporate environment into kaupapa-driven work. You will support line managers, lead ER case management and embed core P&P processes such as goal setting, salary reviews, performance matters and workforce planning.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with line managers to give timely and effective P&P advice.
• Lead and support ER case management, ensuring professional and culturally appropriate outcomes.
• Support and strengthen line manager capability, confidence and cultural awareness.
• Ensure compliance with employment legislation, policies and privacy standards.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of P&P processes and systems.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in NZ HR or law, with recent understanding of current NZ.
• 2-3 years as a Human Resource Business Partner with a strong focus on ER issues, policies and performance enhancement.
• Proven ability to manage ER issues to resolution in a complex environment.
• Comfortable partnering in a business where grey areas need navigating.
• Cultural competency, ideally gained from working in an iwi or similar context.
• Accuracy, careful management of privacy and disciplined file management.
• Right to work in New Zealand; pre-employment checks (police vetting report and qualification check) may be required.

Required skills

• Familiarity with HR systems (HRIS, ATS, LMS).
• Confident with technology.
