Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship (Fitting & Machining)

About the role

ATNZ is recruiting mechanically minded people to start a career in fitting and machining or machining apprenticeships with its host company in Tauranga. Successful candidates are employed by ATNZ and placed with the host company, where they receive on-the-job training while studying to become a fully qualified engineer. The apprenticeship lasts 3 to 4 years, shorter if you hold a Level 3 pre-trade qualification.

Key responsibilities

• Make and assemble precision components for industrial machinery used across New Zealand and worldwide.
• Learn to produce, fit and maintain parts to exacting standards using modern machining processes.
• Work in a workshop offering manual and CNC machining (turning and milling), CAD design, reverse engineering, welding and assembly, and precision inspection.

Required profile

• Aged 16 or over with the right to live and work in New Zealand permanently.
• No qualifications needed; employers look for a great attitude and a good work ethic.
• Hands-on learner who prefers practical, on-the-job learning over classroom theory.
