Building Surveyor (Inspector) – Hybrid role in South Auckland

About the role

Auckland Council is looking for an experienced Building Surveyor/Inspector to join its Building Inspection team in Manukau. The position is hybrid, offering flexible working arrangements, the option to purchase an extra week of leave and additional KiwiSaver contributions.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect building work to ensure compliance with building consents, the Building Code, BCA policies and other legislative requirements.
• Make sound technical decisions on inspection outcomes and provide clear, customer‑focused advice.
• Maintain accurate and robust records of all inspections and decisions.
• Help clients – builders, homeowners, architects and developers – understand Council processes and the Building Code.

Required profile

• At least 5 years of experience in a building‑related role.
• Relevant qualification such as a National Diploma in Building Control Surveying or an equivalent IANZ‑accepted qualification, or willingness to obtain it.
• Strong knowledge of the Building Act, Building Code and structural integrity considerations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a customer‑service orientation.
• Ability to manage competing demands and resolve issues ethically.
