BAS Accountant – New Plymouth

About the role

We are seeking an experienced BAS Accountant to join our friendly Taranaki team in New Plymouth. The role offers a permanent full‑time position with the opportunity to manage a diverse client portfolio and provide practical accounting and advisory support.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review financial statements, income tax returns, GST returns and other compliance deliverables for a range of clients.
• Build trusted relationships by understanding each client’s business, goals and challenges.
• Deliver business advisory services including budgeting, forecasting, cash‑flow planning and management reporting.
• Identify opportunities, solve problems and improve financial visibility for clients.
• Mentor junior team members, share knowledge and review their work.
• Collaborate with directors and colleagues on client projects and specialist advisory work.
• Utilise accounting software and reporting tools to provide efficient, accurate solutions.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years experience in a CA firm or comparable professional services environment.
• CA qualification or equivalent.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build lasting client relationships.
• Curious mindset, attention to detail and practical problem‑solving approach.
• Interest in mentoring others and contributing to a supportive team culture.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Xero, MYOB or similar accounting platforms.
• Financial statement preparation.
• Tax return preparation.
