Product Development Engineer – Auckland

About the role

Fisher & Paykel Healthcare is seeking an experienced Product Development Engineer to join its Auckland team. You will help create high‑quality, life‑changing medical devices, working in a collaborative environment that values balance, respect, and sustainable pace.

Key responsibilities

• Lead or contribute to end‑to‑end product development from concept through commercialisation.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with R&D, manufacturing, quality and regulatory teams.
• Design solutions that balance performance, manufacturability and patient safety.
• Oversee prototype development, testing and validation activities.
• Support design reviews, risk assessments and technical documentation.
• Mentor and share knowledge with less experienced engineers.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in a relevant engineering environment.
• Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Biomedical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven track record delivering engineering outcomes in complex, real‑world settings.
• Strong communication skills and ability to influence cross‑functional decisions.
• Pragmatic problem‑solving and risk‑management approach.
• Interest in a long‑term role with work‑life balance.

Required skills

• New product development and product lifecycle management.
• Designing and building prototypes with a hands‑on approach.
• Manufacturing processes such as injection moulding and DFM/DFA principles.
• Product testing, validation and technical documentation.
• Project leadership or ownership of key workstreams.
• Experience in regulated environments (medical devices, ISO standards).
