Heavy Diesel Technician – Field or Workshop

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Heavy Diesel Technician to join our Invercargill team, working either in the field or in our workshop. You will be responsible for keeping Caterpillar plant and equipment running smoothly across Southland and Central Otago.

Key responsibilities

• Fault‑find, diagnose and troubleshoot diesel engines and related systems.
• Repair, service and perform preventative maintenance on Caterpillar equipment.
• Rebuild engines and major components as required.
• Plan daily work to maximise efficiency and meet service schedules.
• Complete all required paperwork, service records and administrative tasks.
• Collaborate with the Leading Hand, Service Manager and wider technical team.

Required profile

• Qualified and experienced plant and equipment technician, or experience in a heavy‑diesel discipline such as agriculture, road transport or materials handling.
• Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to learn the Caterpillar product range and adapt to new technologies.
• Flexibility to work Monday‑Friday with optional overtime or flexible arrangements.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with Caterpillar diesel equipment.
• Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic abilities.
• Competence in engine repair, rebuilding and preventative maintenance.
• Ability to use workshop tools and equipment safely.
