Part-Time Brain Injury Nurse Specialist

About the role

ABI Rehabilitation is seeking a part‑time Brain Injury Nurse Specialist to join its senior nursing team. Working approximately 24 hours per week, you will assess patients with moderate to severe acquired brain injuries and coordinate their transition from hospital to intensive rehabilitation.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive assessments of brain injury patients.
• Coordinate timely discharge and transfer to intensive rehabilitation services.
• Provide information and support to families and whānau.
• Liaise with ABI intensive services and offer specialist advice to hospital staff.
• Travel between regional hospitals across the central and lower North Island.
• Build strong relationships with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal client outcomes.

Required profile

• At least three years of experience in a neuro setting (e.g., neurosurgery, stroke, AT&R).
• Current Registered Nurse Annual Practicing Certificate.
• Advanced assessment and clinical reasoning abilities.
• Post‑graduate qualification preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal skills across disciplines.
• Strong organisational and time‑management capabilities.
• Flexibility to travel and work across multiple sites.
