About the role
The Graduate Research School is seeking a motivated Pacific Postgraduate Research Development Advisor to lead a culturally responsive writing programme for Pacific postgraduate students. This part‑time, fixed‑term role works closely with the Office of the Deputy Vice‑Chancellor, Pacific, and supports Master’s and doctoral candidates in achieving academic success and wellbeing.
Key responsibilities
- Design, coordinate and deliver a writing programme tailored for Pacific postgraduate students.
- Plan and facilitate writing days, workshops and related academic support initiatives.
- Promote student participation and engagement in programme activities.
- Provide academic advice to students and, where appropriate, to supervisors on postgraduate study matters.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships across university units, including the Graduate Research School, Te Tumu – School of Māori and Indigenous Studies, Pacific Islands Centre and others.
- Establish connections with Pacific academic staff, support staff, alumni, partner institutions and Pacific communities.
- Support effective communication with students, staff and key stakeholders.
- Contribute to monitoring, review and evaluation of the programme to inform continuous improvement.
Required profile
- Postgraduate qualification (minimum Master’s degree), with candidates actively working towards a PhD welcomed.
- Demonstrated experience working with Pacific peoples and communities in a pastoral, professional or academic support context.
- Strong commitment to Pacific student success and ability to advocate within a complex tertiary environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Analytical ability to review and reflect on programme effectiveness.
- Initiative and effective problem‑solving skills.
