Line Mechanic Team Leader – Electrical Distribution

About the role

Join Downer’s Energy & Utilities team in Matamata as a Line Mechanic Team Leader. You will lead field crews delivering construction, maintenance and fault‑response work across the electricity distribution network in the Waikato region, ensuring safety and high‑quality outcomes for customers and communities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise line crews on construction, maintenance and fault‑response projects.
• Ensure all work complies with safety standards, including Zero Harm policies.
• Prepare and review Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and Job Safety and Environmental Analyses (JSEAs).
• Coordinate with internal teams, subcontractors and the public to maintain smooth operations.
• Mentor and develop team members on‑site, leading by example.

Required profile

• Current Line Mechanic registration and practising licence.
• NZQA Level 4 qualification.
• Class 1 driver’s licence.
• Strong knowledge of SMEI and low‑voltage electrical work practices.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety and ability to work under pressure.

Required skills

• Low‑voltage electrical work.
• SMEI (Standards for Maintenance and Electrical Installation) knowledge.
• Creation and completion of SWMS and JSEAs.
