Senior Primary Engineer

About the role

Join Beca’s Power business as a Senior Primary Engineer, leading concept and detailed designs for high‑voltage (HV) and extra‑high‑voltage (EHV) substations across Australia and New Zealand. You will work with a team of industry‑leading power engineers, designers and technical leaders on large, complex energy projects.

Key responsibilities

• Develop concept and detailed designs for HV (220 kV) and EHV substations using digital design technologies.
• Address site considerations, client requirements, standards, equipment specifications, cabling sizing, earthing design calculations and safety standards.
• Provide high‑quality technical advice and project designs to clients.
• Mentor and coach junior power electrical engineers, supporting their on‑the‑job and technical training.
• Contribute to delivery excellence, quality assurance and high‑quality design outputs.
• Support financial and programme outcomes for projects and work packages.
• Assist client management activities, including bidding and preparation of project proposals.
• Manage multiple workstreams, adapt to changing deliverables and keep stakeholders informed.

Required profile

• Proven experience in HV/EHV substation design and delivery.
• Ability to manage several workstreams and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong communication skills for stakeholder updates and hard conversations.
• Flexibility to adapt to evolving project scopes and timelines.
