Water Technician

About the role

We are looking for a Water Technician to join Mott MacDonald’s specialist water utility monitoring team in Auckland. The role is hands‑on and predominantly outdoors, installing and servicing equipment that supports wastewater and stormwater network monitoring across New Zealand.

Key responsibilities

• Install and service flow, level and logging equipment in wastewater and stormwater networks.
• Work safely in confined spaces such as manholes, pipes, instrument cabinets and treatment plants.
• Perform site‑based tasks, including occasional night shifts, and schedule routine maintenance across multiple sites.
• Check and validate monitoring data for accuracy and performance.
• Analyse data trends and report findings to engineers, scientists and managers.
• Contribute to real‑time monitoring programmes that support infrastructure upgrades and environmental compliance.

Required profile

• Practical and safety‑conscious with willingness to work in confined spaces.
• Physically fit and able to pass a full medical test.
• Hold a full NZ driver’s licence and legal entitlement to work in New Zealand.
• Comfortable working with wastewater and in physically active environments.
• Background in plumbing, drainlaying, construction or general contracting is a plus.
• Basic computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Flexible with working hours, including occasional night shifts.
