Building Surveyor Inspector – Auckland West

About the role

Auckland Council is looking for an experienced Building Surveyor Inspector to join its Building Inspection team for the Auckland West portfolio. The role is hybrid, offering flexible working arrangements and the chance to travel across the North Shore region while supporting a variety of clients.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect building work to ensure compliance with building consents, the Building Code, BCA policies and other legislative requirements.
• Make sound technical decisions on inspection outcomes and provide clear, customer‑focused advice.
• Maintain accurate, robust records of all inspections and decisions.
• Help customers understand Council processes and building regulations.

Required profile

• At least 5 years of experience in a building‑related role, preferably in inspection or compliance.
• Relevant qualification such as a National Diploma in Building Control Surveying or an equivalent IANZ‑accepted qualification, or willingness to obtain it.
• Strong knowledge of the Building Act, Building Code and structural integrity standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Customer‑service orientation with a solution‑focused approach.
