Senior Rural Generalist Medical Officer

About the role

The Rural Generalist Team on the West Coast of New Zealand is seeking a Senior Medical Officer to deliver comprehensive health services across a broad clinical scope. You will work in a multidisciplinary environment that serves a sparsely populated coastal region, providing primary, urgent, and specialist‑level care.

Key responsibilities

• Provide primary care, urgent care, emergency medicine, general medicine, paediatrics, orthopaedics, and obstetrics/gynaecology to the community.
• Collaborate with in‑house specialists and external partners to support local care and coordinate tertiary transfers.
• Participate in flexible, team‑based service delivery across multiple rural sites.
• Contribute to ongoing professional development and mentorship within the Rural Generalist model.

Required profile

• Vocational registration (e.g., Fellow of the DHB or Fellow of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners).
• Eligibility to register with the New Zealand Medical Council.
• Interest in pursuing or holding dual fellowship qualifications.
• Commitment to delivering high‑quality care in a rural setting.
