Rural Generalist - Senior Medical Officer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Medical Officer to join our Rural Generalist Team on the West Coast of New Zealand. You will provide comprehensive, high‑quality health services to a dispersed rural population, working across a broad clinical scope in a supportive, multidisciplinary environment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver primary, urgent, and emergency care across the West Coast region.
• Provide general medicine, paediatrics, orthopaedics, and obstetrics/gynaecology services.
• Collaborate with in‑house specialists and TransAlpine partners for complex cases and tertiary transfers.
• Maintain equitable, high‑standard care in a remote, community‑focused setting.
• Participate in ongoing professional development and career‑pathway opportunities.

Required profile

• Vocational registration (e.g., FDRHMNZ or FRNZCGP) and eligibility for New Zealand Medical Council registration.
• Interest in or progress toward dual fellowship qualification.
• Experience as a Senior Medical Officer or equivalent in a rural/generalist setting.
• Commitment to flexible, multidisciplinary teamwork.

• Ability to work autonomously in remote environments.
