Payroll Analyst

About the role

Waimakariri District Council is seeking a detail‑oriented Payroll Analyst to join its Human Resources team in Rangiora. The role is responsible for delivering accurate, timely and compliant payroll services for a growing community.

Key responsibilities

• Process fortnightly payroll using Datapay, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
• Maintain payroll data integrity and comply with New Zealand legislation and council policies.
• Respond to payroll enquiries from employees and managers promptly and professionally.
• Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, performing root‑cause analysis.
• Analyse payroll data to identify trends, issues and opportunities for improvement.
• Support reporting, reconciliations, audits and system‑enhancement projects.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external service providers to optimise payroll processes.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of payroll experience, preferably in a medium‑to‑large organisation.
• Strong knowledge of New Zealand payroll legislation, including the Holidays Act.
• Experience with Datapay or a comparable payroll system.
• Relevant qualification or progress towards one (e.g., NZPPA) is desirable.
• Experience in local government or the public sector is a plus.
