Non-Executive Independent Director (Board Position)

About the role

Ahuriri Investment Management (AIM) is seeking an experienced independent director to join its board. The role is non‑executive and focuses on providing strategic oversight and governance for the Council’s long‑term investment portfolio, helping to drive commercial performance and sustainable shareholder value.

Key responsibilities

• Provide effective investment governance and risk‑management guidance.
• Contribute to strategic decisions that optimise portfolio performance and long‑term returns.
• Attend bi‑monthly board meetings in Napier and actively participate in strategic discussions.
• Collaborate with fellow independent directors and the council‑appointed member to ensure robust oversight.
• Uphold corporate rigour, sustainability, and accountability standards.

Required profile

• Proven track record in commercial governance, preferably with investment‑governance experience.
• Experience managing property, investment, asset or fund portfolios.
• Strong financial literacy, leadership and strategic expertise.
• Political awareness and understanding of public‑sector accountability and community ownership models.
• Demonstrated commitment to Napier city and the local community.
• Residency in or near Napier with availability for regular board meetings.
