About the role
Awanui Labs is seeking dedicated Medical Laboratory Technicians to join the Histology Department at Wellington Hospital. These permanent, full‑time positions operate on a rostered schedule of 80 hours per fortnight, offering the chance to develop technical expertise in a supportive laboratory environment.
Key responsibilities
- Receive, process, and store specimens, prioritising urgent cases.
- Perform histology tests according to established protocols and methods.
- Set up and operate laboratory equipment following departmental manuals.
- Carry out equipment checks, calibrations, maintenance and quality‑control procedures, reporting any issues.
- Use the Laboratory Information System (LIS) to generate work lists and enter data accurately.
Required profile
- Methodical approach with strict adherence to quality procedures.
- Strong teamwork, initiative and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment, including night‑shifts.
- Proactive attitude towards learning new processes and continuous improvement.
- Excellent attention to detail and reliable record‑keeping.
Required skills
- Proficiency with a Laboratory Information System (LIS).
