Management Consultant – Public Sector Transformation

About the role

KPMG is seeking experienced consultants to join its Wellington Management Consulting team and help shape transformation programmes for New Zealand’s public and private sectors. You will work with government agencies, corporations and Māori organisations on large‑scale change initiatives that improve service delivery and drive measurable impact.

Key responsibilities

• Lead workstreams and project teams across complex engagements, delivering high‑quality insights and recommendations.
• Support major transformation programmes through requirements definition, PMO support and change‑management expertise.
• Apply Machinery of Government (MoG) knowledge and Better Business Case (BBC) methodology to operational delivery, transition planning, business case development and operating‑model design.
• Contribute to business development by writing proposals, producing thought‑leadership content and enhancing KPMG methodologies.
• Manage multiple engagements simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and client service excellence.

Required profile

• Strong background in MoG with familiarity of BBC methodology.
• Demonstrated experience in operational readiness, transition, operating‑model design or large‑scale project delivery.
• Proven ability to work at pace across several engagements and to influence senior stakeholders.
• Excellent judgment, analytical thinking and a collaborative mindset.
