Legal Subject Matter Expert

About the role

LexisNexis is seeking a Legal Subject Matter Expert to join its Data Discovery & Enrichment team in New Zealand. You will apply your legal expertise to shape AI‑driven products for the legal market, working closely with data scientists, engineers, and product managers.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with product, data science, and DDE teams to plan AI review projects and draft initial prompt sets.
• Conduct detailed reviews of AI tool outputs, rate responses, and provide actionable feedback for continuous improvement.
• Supervise and mentor junior DDE experts, ensuring quality and consistency of work.
• Develop and execute SME testing plans, manage resources, and maintain training data and relevance evaluations.
• Communicate insights and recommendations that influence product features and customer experience.

Required profile

• Law degree with at least 2 years of experience in a New Zealand legal practice.
• Strong legal research and writing abilities.
• Experience in managing, coaching, or mentoring junior staff.
• Problem‑solving mindset with a customer‑centric approach.
• Ability to handle highly complex projects and work independently.
