About the role
Join the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE) as an Investigator within the Occupational Regulation team in Auckland. You will help protect the public by investigating complaints and potential breaches across a range of licensed professions.
Key responsibilities
- Investigate complaints against licensed practitioners and assess whether disciplinary breaches have occurred.
- Conduct investigations into unlicensed activities and support prosecutions for criminal offences.
- Analyse large volumes of information, evidence and documentation to form robust recommendations.
- Prepare clear, legally‑sound investigation reports and present findings to regulatory boards or tribunals.
- Collaborate with the Manager Investigations and a diverse, fast‑paced team to achieve regulatory outcomes.
Required profile
- Understanding of the occupational regulation enforcement environment.
- Curious, questioning mindset with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage priorities and meet deadlines.
- Legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
Required skills
- Knowledge of complaint processes and investigative techniques.
- Proven ability to write legal reports and interpret legislation.
- Familiarity with tribunals, regulatory boards and court processes.

- Salary range $85,537 – $101,911 per year.
