Investigator – Occupational Regulation

About the role

Join the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE) as an Investigator within the Occupational Regulation team in Auckland. You will help protect the public by investigating complaints and potential breaches across a range of licensed professions.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate complaints against licensed practitioners and assess whether disciplinary breaches have occurred.
• Conduct investigations into unlicensed activities and support prosecutions for criminal offences.
• Analyse large volumes of information, evidence and documentation to form robust recommendations.
• Prepare clear, legally‑sound investigation reports and present findings to regulatory boards or tribunals.
• Collaborate with the Manager Investigations and a diverse, fast‑paced team to achieve regulatory outcomes.

Required profile

• Understanding of the occupational regulation enforcement environment.
• Curious, questioning mindset with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure, manage priorities and meet deadlines.
• Legal right to live and work in New Zealand.

Required skills

• Knowledge of complaint processes and investigative techniques.
• Proven ability to write legal reports and interpret legislation.
• Familiarity with tribunals, regulatory boards and court processes.
