Guide Dog Mobility Instructor – Full-time

About the role

Blind Low Vision NZ is seeking a qualified Guide Dog Mobility Instructor to join its Guide Dogs team in South Auckland. This permanent, full‑time position involves training guide dogs, supporting handlers nationwide, and mentoring new instructors.

Key responsibilities

• Train guide dogs as part of the dog training team.
• Provide training, follow‑up and after‑care services to guide‑dog handlers across New Zealand.
• Deliver tuition and training to Cadet Guide Dog Mobility Instructors and Guide Dog Trainers.
• Assess, train and prepare assigned guide dogs to meet BLVNZ and International Guide Dog Federation standards.
• Travel regularly throughout New Zealand (Northland to Wellington) to complete client programmes.

Required profile

• Qualified Guide Dog Mobility Instructor accredited by the International Guide Dog Federation.
• Minimum two years post‑qualification experience in the guide‑dog field.
• Current first‑aid certificate.
• Relevant canine behavioural qualifications.
• Strong communication skills and comfort speaking in public settings.
• Physical ability to train dogs and guide‑dog teams in all weather conditions.
• Willingness to represent the organisation in fundraising and travel as required.

Required skills

• Computer skills for reporting and written communication.
• First‑aid certification.
• Canine behavioural knowledge.
