Support Worker – Forensic Rehabilitation (Porirua)

About the role

IDEA Services is seeking compassionate Support Workers to join its forensic rehabilitation team in Porirua. You will help individuals with high and complex needs who have been involved with the justice system to rebuild skills, engage in community activities, and move towards successful reintegration.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate community‑based activities such as swimming, fishing, sport and family visits.
• Monitor behaviour, maintain safety and apply de‑escalation techniques when needed.
• Act as a steady presence and role model, encouraging positive change.
• Support participants in achieving personal goals and developing supportive relationships.

Required profile

• Life experience and a positive attitude; previous support work preferred.
• Ability to build trusting relationships and coach individuals through change.
• Resilience, safety awareness and a non‑judgmental approach.
• Physical fitness to take part in activities and a full NZ driver’s licence (or ability to obtain within six months).

Required skills

• Comfortable using computers and tablets for daily tasks.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Experience with challenging behaviours and de‑escalation.
