Cloud Engineer

About the role

Join the Cloud Team at NZ Transport Agency (Waka Kotahi) and help design, operate and evolve modern, secure cloud platforms. You will work on large‑scale, real‑world solutions across Azure, with exposure to AWS, GCP and SaaS services, supporting initiatives from data warehouses to Internet of Things.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and optimise core Azure services including VMs, networking, Entra ID/Azure AD, AKS and App Services.
• Develop and maintain infrastructure‑as‑code using PowerShell, Terraform, Azure CLI and Python.
• Build and manage CI/CD pipelines in GitHub and Azure DevOps.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams and vendors to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
• Contribute to technical strategy, standards and best practices across the cloud landscape.

Required profile

• Proven experience in cloud infrastructure operations within fast‑paced, agile environments.
• Strong background in Azure platform services and exposure to AWS/GCP.
• Hands‑on expertise with IaC tools and automation scripting.
• Knowledge of modern methodologies such as Agile and ITIL.
• Effective communication and relationship‑building skills.
