Trainee Power Technician – Hands‑On Training in Electrical Networks

About the role

This trainee position offers a hands‑on introduction to protection and communication systems that keep power distribution networks safe and efficient. You will work outdoors alongside experienced crews, supporting the installation, testing, maintenance and repair of electrical assets while studying towards industry qualifications.

Key responsibilities

• Support fault‑finding, testing, installation and maintenance of electrical and substation equipment.
• Assist with the upkeep and installation of transformers and switchgear.
• Interpret technical drawings and troubleshoot equipment issues.
• Carry out safety checks, complete documentation and perform quality audits.
• Attend block courses and meet training standards on schedule.
• Participate in after‑hours response work when required.

Required profile

• Trade‑level education (prerequisite).
• Legal right to work in New Zealand and a current work visa.
• Motivated, quick‑thinking and ready to take on challenges.
• Willingness to work outdoors and on a flexible schedule.
