Team Leader - Consumer Lending

About the role

Heartland is looking for a Team Leader to head its Consumer Credit team. In this role you will guide a group of Credit Managers, ensure operational excellence and drive continuous improvement across personal and motor lending processes. It is a key leadership position for someone eager to deepen their knowledge of Heartland’s business and advance their career.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of high‑quality credit decisions for Personal and Motor Lending.
• Manage day‑to‑day team operations, including queue management, workflow prioritisation, rostering, leave planning and SLA delivery.
• Act as first point of escalation for complex credit decisions, customer complaints and queries from Credit Managers, Relationship Managers and introducers.
• Co‑sign and approve Delegated Lending Authority (DLA) requests.
• Monitor credit quality, contribute to auto‑decisioning enhancements and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Build strong relationships with intermediaries, third‑party partners and internal stakeholders.
• Deliver regular performance reporting that is accurate, consistent and customer‑focused.
• Coach, manage and develop direct reports through performance reviews, one‑on‑ones and training activities.
• Support onboarding of new starters and provide ad‑hoc operational assistance, including for Auto Lending.

Required profile

• Confident credit professional with deep knowledge of Heartland’s policies and systems.
• Proven ability to make sound lending decisions under pressure and communicate clearly.
• Strong relationship‑building skills across the business and with external partners.
• Improvement‑mindset, customer‑focused and able to model Heartland’s values.
• Calm and organised when managing busy workflows and tight deadlines.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Heartland credit systems and policies.
