Financial Accountant – Transformational Finance Role

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Financial Accountant to join Stats NZ’s finance team in Wellington as the organisation undergoes a transformation of its operating model. Reporting to the Deputy CFO, you will help ensure financial information is accurate, timely and supports strategic decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Produce accurate financial information and reports on schedule.
• Provide technical leadership, advice and financial services across the organisation.
• Manage relationships with internal and external auditors and the Treasury.
• Ensure finance systems, including Treasury’s CFIS, operate effectively.
• Build trusted relationships with finance, procurement, business insights and improvement teams.

Required profile

• Chartered Accountant Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) qualification or working towards it.
• Experience reviewing and maintaining internal control frameworks.
• Proven ability to prepare financial statements and perform balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Experience using Treasury’s CFIS system.
• High standards of professionalism and a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
• Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and willingness to develop Te Ao Māori knowledge.
