Senior Network Security Engineer

About the role

DEFEND delivers cyber resilience through engineered solutions and expert frontline defence. Its Senior Network Security Operations Engineer is a hands-on technical leader who keeps customers' network security services secure, resilient and performing, and whom the wider team turns to when problems get hard. The role suits someone with deep networking and security expertise, sound judgement and an ownership mindset, including as part of a 24/7 on-call rotation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, deliver and support technical solutions to customers.
• Mentor and guide junior team members, acting as first point of escalation for issues.
• Perform incident, investigation and analysis to assess severity and impact.
• Diagnose complex faults and lead the development and implementation of resolutions.
• Proactively identify risks and improvements, recommending changes aligned with best practice.
• Ensure compliance with change management practices when implementing changes.
• Provide technical leadership for the secure, reliable delivery of network security services.
• Take part in a 24/7 on-call rotation for rapid response during critical incidents.
• Maintain and promote accurate technical documentation.

Required profile

• Experience in incident response, troubleshooting and fault resolution.
• Experience in network operations and support, with the ability to provide technical leadership.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, time management and prioritisation.
• Ability to work independently, exercise sound technical judgement and take ownership of outcomes.

Required skills

• Comprehensive knowledge of networking and network security principles applied to complex customer environments.
• Excellent documentation skills, including technical procedures and network diagrams.
