Quantity Surveyor

About the role

The Quantity Surveyor is responsible for the commercial and financial management of construction projects undertaken by the company, supporting them from initial estimating and tendering through procurement, construction, progress claims, variations, cost reporting and final account. The role suits an experienced Quantity Surveyor with strong commercial awareness, attention to detail, organisation and the ability to manage several projects and priorities at once. It is advertised by Stellar Recruitment in Canterbury, New Zealand, as a full-time position.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with and, where required, manage the preparation of construction estimates and tenders, and help with final tender review before submission.
• Prepare trade packages and scopes of work, and identify suitable subcontractors and suppliers.
• After a project is awarded, help establish and maintain the project commercial budget.
• Prepare and manage client progress claims in line with the applicable construction contract.
• Identify variations early and keep an accurate variation register, and maintain well-organised project records.
• Oversee project financial performance and provide accurate commercial information to support decision-making.
• Work with the wider construction team and represent the company professionally with external parties.
• Develop knowledge of the company's construction contracts, including NZS contracts and bespoke agreements.
• Assist with project financial management, forecasting, contractual matters and commercial strategy.

Required profile

• At least 5 years of experience in the New Zealand market.
• Current New Zealand driver licence.

Required skills

• Competent use of MS Office suite, construction estimating and project management software, and accounting and cost-management systems.
