Principal Communications Advisor

About the role

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) is seeking a Principal Communications Advisor to shape the communication strategy for the Our Future Services transformation programme within Immigration New Zealand. This senior role will design and drive an integrated engagement approach that supports understanding, participation and adoption across the multi‑year initiative.

Key responsibilities

• Design and lead the engagement and communication strategy for the Our Future Services transformation.
• Take a systems view of stakeholders, channels and touchpoints to enable effective engagement.
• Create high‑quality written and digital content that supports behaviour change.
• Develop tools and approaches that build leader capability for authentic conversations.
• Translate complex programme work into clear, audience‑specific narratives.
• Establish feedback loops, insights and data to continuously improve engagement.
• Work adaptively in a fast‑moving environment and build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in communications and stakeholder engagement, preferably in public‑sector transformation programmes.
• Proven ability to influence senior leaders and provide strategic advice.
• Strong analytical mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
