Intermediate Infrastructure Engineer

About the role

Centrapay builds a universal acceptance layer for digital wallets and assets at the point of sale, aiming to make moving value as easy as sharing information. It is hiring an Intermediate Infrastructure Engineer in Christchurch on a full-time basis. Engineers build, run and own their work end to end, with autonomy to fix issues and no waiting for handoffs.

Key responsibilities

• Chaos engineering and load testing to break systems in controlled ways and understand their behaviour under heavy traffic or failures.
• Build and roll out an AI harness that changes how code is shipped, reviewed and debugged.
• Design and implement regional failover so the system keeps working if a cloud region goes down.
• Work across backend, frontend and infrastructure to deliver customer-facing features.
• Use 10% time and hackathons to experiment with new technologies.

Required profile

• At least 3 years shipping real code to users, having learned from real mistakes.
• Clear writing, since the team is async-first and communicates mostly in writing.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and able to talk to users to figure out what to build.
• AWS experience is not required; the team will help you get up to speed.

• Backend and data: Node.js, DynamoDB, Redis, Vitest
• Frontend: Vue.js, Tailwind CSS, Astro, Testing Library, Playwright
• Infrastructure and operations: AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Honeycomb, OpenTelemetry
