Casual Note Taker - All Faculties
University of Auckland · Auckland
Job description
About the role
Student Disability Services at the University of Auckland is looking for casual note takers across all faculties. The role provides students with a disability with typed notes within 24 hours of each lecture, so they can use them for their own study. Notes must be factual, reflecting what the lecturer presents, and must not include the author's opinions or comments.
Key responsibilities
- Attend all lectures in person and take notes; recording-based note taking is only at the discretion of Student Disability staff and needs prior approval.
- Summarise the verbal content of the lecture clearly and accurately, covering more than just a transcript of slides.
- Keep notes factual, clearly structured and well referenced, and accessible to the student.
- Respect the student's privacy and never disclose who you are note taking for.
- Type notes in a Word document, unless an exception is approved by Student Disability Services.
- Respond to student feedback and adjust your notes accordingly.
Required profile
- Currently enrolled as a student at the University of Auckland.
- Ideally in your 2nd year of study or higher, with a GPA of 6 or greater.
- Demonstrable note-taking skills and good written and oral communication skills.
- A reasonable level of personal academic achievement.
What we offer
- Pay of $25.73 per hour.
- 8% holiday pay accrued on a casual employment basis, based on hours submitted for payment.
- The chance to develop your own note-taking skills and add them to your CV.
To apply, submit an online application with a cover letter stating your current level of study and courses, an example of your own notes from a recent class, and your unofficial transcript. The position is for the coming semester.
