Building Control Officer – Processing

About the role

The Building Control Officer – Processing will assess and certify building consent applications for Tauranga City Council. You will ensure that all submissions comply with the Building Act 2004 and related regulations, providing clear technical advice to customers while meeting strict timelines.

Key responsibilities

• Review building consent plans, specifications and supporting documentation.
• Assess applications against the Building Act 2004, Building Regulations 2006 and the Building Code.
• Provide written and verbal technical advice to applicants and internal stakeholders.
• Make accurate, timely decisions on consent approvals or required amendments.
• Maintain detailed records of assessments and decisions in the council’s system.

Required profile

• A tertiary qualification in a building‑related discipline as required by Regulation 18 of the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006.
• Current Residential and/or Commercial NCAS competency.
• Proven experience in building consent processing or a closely related role.
• Strong knowledge of the Building Act 2004, Building Regulations 2006 and the Building Code.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
