Support Worker - Rotorua

About the role

IDEA Services supports adults with intellectual disabilities to live in their own homes and take part in their communities. As a Support Worker in Rotorua you will help people with complex needs achieve their goals, manage risk and ensure their safety, providing individual care throughout the night. The role is permanent and full time, covering AM, PM and split shifts, weekends and sleepovers; availability to work alternate weekends is required.

Key responsibilities

• Help people recognise and respond to emotional overwhelm.
• Support growth in independence and learning daily living skills such as using public transport, getting a job and cooking a meal.
• Help manage daily routines such as toileting, showering, dressing, taking medication and eating.
• Support people in pursuing their goals, interests and hobbies, staying healthy and building strong connections with their whānau and community.

Required profile

• Previous relevant experience preferred, but varied life experience and the right attitude are most important.
• Experience in caregiving or personal care for adults preferred.
• Calm nature and confidence working with challenging behaviours.
• Availability for flexible shifts, including weekends and sleepovers.
• Physical fitness to provide necessary physical support.
• Full New Zealand driver's licence.
• Legal right to work in New Zealand.

Required skills

• Comfortable and proficient with computers and tablets on a daily basis.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
