Stakeholder Communications Manager

About the role

We are seeking a Stakeholder Communications Manager to act as the primary link between Downer’s project teams and the communities, property owners, councils and clients affected by our work in Canterbury. The role ensures clear, consistent communication throughout project delivery and supports a positive customer experience.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver stakeholder engagement and communication plans.
• Serve as the trusted point of contact for stakeholders, providing clear and consistent updates.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with councils, clients and community groups.
• Partner with delivery teams to minimise disruption and embed stakeholder considerations into planning.
• Manage condition surveys, reinstatement activities and property‑related matters end‑to‑end.
• Anticipate risks, resolve issues early and keep projects moving forward.
• Contribute to a 24/7 contact line on a rotating basis and be available for occasional after‑hours work and travel.
• Provide stakeholder feedback to delivery teams to support continuous improvement.
• Assist with capture planning and tender development for future opportunities.
• Lead community engagement initiatives that strengthen local connections.

• Proven ability to build trust quickly and manage difficult conversations.
• Calm under pressure, solution‑focused and able to juggle multiple priorities.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a genuine care for customer experience.
