Solution Architect - Modern Platforms

About the role

Datacom is looking for a Solution Architect to join its Managed Operations - Modern Platforms team. The role helps customers modernise, mature and optimise their IT environments by designing and delivering IT solutions for public and private sector organisations. It blends presales expertise with deep technical knowledge of Microsoft, Oracle, cloud and hybrid platform technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Lead presales workshops and customer consultations to shape technical solutions aligned to business outcomes.
• Produce Statements of Work (SOWs), proposals and Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) documents.
• Build and present solution designs for Managed Operations products such as enterprise backup, storage, infrastructure and middleware platforms.
• Lead solutioning and pricing for bids and RFP responses across multi-service line opportunities.
• Partner with delivery and engineering teams to ensure designed solutions are executed smoothly.
• Engage with vendors to secure pricing, build partnerships and stay ahead of evolving technologies.
• Mentor architects and engineers and identify new business opportunities and service improvements.

Required profile

• 10+ years designing, installing and/or supporting Microsoft, Oracle or VMware solutions.
• 1-5 years scoping and pricing infrastructure or cloud-based project services.
• Proven experience producing ROMs, SOWs, proposals and high-level design documents for mid-to-large customers.
• Commercial acumen and experience pricing project and managed service engagements.
• Nice to have: knowledge of backup, storage and recovery tools (Veeam, Commvault, Rubrik, Zerto, Nutanix); familiarity with enterprise management and automation tools; experience in complex commercial arrangements or bid teams; certifications in Microsoft, ITIL, project management or architecture frameworks.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of hybrid cloud (especially Azure), Microsoft 365 and on-premises to cloud migration strategies.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication and presentation skills.
