Software Engineer – Early Hire (Hybrid, Christchurch)

About the role
We are an early‑stage regtech startup in Christchurch building software that helps regulated businesses meet AML/CFT obligations. As an early hire you will work directly with the founders, turning product ideas into reliable, shipped features.
Key responsibilities
- Develop features from well‑defined specifications, including APIs, document processing, integrations, data workflows and user interfaces.
- Leverage AI coding tools to generate code, then review, test and understand the output before it ships.
- Own end‑to‑end quality, including testing, debugging and handling edge cases.
- Maintain a high standard of code quality and documentation.
Required profile
- 3–5 years of software development experience or equivalent self‑taught projects.
- Comfortable navigating unfamiliar codebases and asking clarifying questions.
- Ability to explain AI‑generated code and its behavior.
- Honest about uncertainties, especially in a regulated domain.
