Mental Health Support Worker – Casual (Paraparaumu)

About the role

IDEA Services is looking for flexible and reliable support workers to join our mental health team on a casual, as‑needed basis. You will help cover staff leave and periods of increased demand, picking up a variety of shifts – mornings, evenings, or overnight – often at short notice.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with local health and community services to support residents.
• Work across six homes, assisting residents to set and achieve personal goals.
• Manage medication safely and build daily living skills.
• Facilitate meaningful activities and community involvement.
• Explore new opportunities for growth, independence, and decision‑making.

Required profile

• Experience in disability or mental health support is valued, but life experience, resilience and a positive attitude are also welcome.
• Flexibility to work a range of rostered shifts, including weekends.
• Calm, patient approach with confidence supporting complex or challenging behaviours.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfort using computers and tablets in daily work.
• Physical fitness to provide safe physical support when required.
• Full NZ driver’s licence.

• Hourly rate of $24.68–$30.13 NZD, increasing with qualifications.
